Why Chicago Shouldn’t Host The 2016 Oympic Games
On June - 19 - 2009
I was born and raised in Chicago and now live in a suburb about 25 miles away, so I know I will get some grief over this, but the truth hurts.
My first issue is, do we still need to have Olympic games? I mean really its only about three competing countries: USA, Russia and China. They lead the medal counts, have the most athletes, and take the games most seriously. So seriously that there has been widespread cheating and even changed the rules to allow pro athletes.
Now where's the Olympic tradition in that? That's more like a corporate win at ...

The Case For Changing The NFL Draft: The Consumate Loser, Ryan Leaf
On June - 19 - 2009
As a draft-nik, what I am about to advocate might shock some.
There has been plenty of talk about the ballooning salaries for rookie players that have become a detriment to veteran players that deserve the reward.
In my mind, the biggest examples for why the NFL Draft should be fundamentally and drastically changed are quite simple: Ryan Leaf, Heath Shuler, Todd Marinovich, and Tony Mandarich.
When you think about it, all that an immoral player would have to do in order to cash-in with the NFL Draft is to shoot steroids in college where testing is easier, get selected in the 1st or 2nd ...
Enough Is Enough: One Solution To the Steroids Epidemic
On June - 19 - 2009
Alright Mitchell: Eat this.
Steroids are everywhere. Their presence in sports, especially football and baseball, are unstoppable. Punish as many athletes as you want, try to make examples of childhood heroes, but you're not going to stop anything.
Athletes will always strive to enhance their game. And steroids will continue to be harder and harder to detect. That's just how science works. Just like athletes they will always evolve into something greater.
So what's the solution?
In my opinion, it's not the regulation of athletes. It's the regulation of the game itself.
If commissioners put more effort into regulating the game rather than punishing those ...

Did you hear about the rose that grewfrom a crack in the concrete?Proving nature’s law is wrong itlearned to walk with out having feet.Funny it seems, but by keeping its dreams,it learned to breathe fresh air.Long live the rose that grew from concretewhen no one else ever cared.

On Thursday, June 18, 2009, I turned 40.
Now, some people would try to suppress information like that; but not me. It’s somewhat of a badge of honor for me to make it to 40, because I have been looking forward to it since I was 17 years old.
Why, you might ask?
The answer ...

iFungo Ordinance Bats Supports Our Troops and USA Cares
On June - 18 - 2009
At every baseball game I attend, I stand tall and proud with my hand over my heart as the Star Spangled Banner is played. I scold the people around me when they are too oblivious to take off their caps or when they start to cheer when "Our Country's" song is only three-fourths of the way complete.
I realize how lucky I am that my son and daughters remain here at home while the sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives that make up our military are overseas to protect the country that I love.
So when I heard about ...
For Daddies Everywhere: Why Every Day is Father’s Day
On June - 18 - 2009
You're grown up now, guys. I'd heard the old expression so many times, "They grow up so fast." Who'd have ever thought though that they were talking to me? I ignored the warning and feel like I missed so much.
And now look.
Corey, you just graduated college and have the whole world in your grasp. Still unsure what you'll be, but I know what you'll become. A success at anything you decide to do. And unlike many, you have a good enough grasp on life to define your success in hearts touched as opposed to dollars earned. Guess you were listening ...
Chris Shivers: A Classic Interview with the Pro Bull Riding Legend
On June - 17 - 2009
Who are the millennial cowboys? They drive pickups, not herds, they get buzzed on Jim Beam and they ride 1300 lb. bulls with names like Locomotive Breath, Hurts So Good, and Freak on a Leash.
"Yeah, I'm a cowboy," drawls Chris Shivers, real slow like.
When Shivers says he's a cowboy, he's not talking about Kid Rock. He has been gored—he's had his collarbone snapped in two, wishbone-style—and he's been trampled flat into he ground more times than Wyle E. Coyote.
No matter how twisted up his body gets, Shivers takes his lumps like Gumby in a ten-gallon hat—he never gets bent out ...
