Are Baseball Owners Really Just Community Organizers?
On July - 12 - 2009
Donald Fehr did his job, whether you like it or not.
That is because Fehr's job was to protect players in contract negotiations.
The fact is that the juicers made big money thus that is where many of the big contracts went. Thus, that money and those contract negotiations affected all players, regardless of whether they juiced.
The reality is that the players are not solely to blame. You cannot call the players greedy without saying the same thing about the owners and Bud Selig.
They were equally greedy, but as I see it, the owners initiated the problems that became the steroid problem when ...
Mariner Maniacs name Fearon Wright Player of the Year!
On July - 12 - 2009
On July 8 at the Nest in Baltimore, Mariner Maniacs President Ed Jowanowitch named Baltimore Mariner LB/DL Fearon Wright the Mariner Maniacs Player of the Year for 2009. How valuable was Fearon Wright on defense? Just ask Mariner Maniacs President Ed Jowanowitch.
”He led the defense in sacks and had a very game changing sack on Readings QB Rob Flowers. When you see Fearon on the field, you could tell he was the leader, some say he is the Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Mariners,” Jowanowitch said.
I asked Fearon Wright, how does it feel to be named Mariner Maniacs Player of ...

The Power of Ping Pong Can Put Your Head Through Drywall
On July - 12 - 2009
A grass seed salesman I know went head to head with the power of ping pong and lived to tell about it.
Table tennis has been known by a variety of names including gossima, flim-flam, and ping pong. Experts believe that the game was created in England during the late 1800's. Early versions of the game used balls made of cork on table tops.
The International Table Tennis Federation was formed in 1926. It soon became a favorite in many nations and led to the dominance of the game by nations like Japan and China.
Ping pong was the reason for the first ...
The 10 Best Sports-Themed TV Shows of All Time
On July - 10 - 2009
This is my list of what I feel are the 10 best sports-themed television shows from the past 20 years. I have excluded shows such as Sportscenter, Baseball Tonight, MLB Quick Pitch, etc... It's just a list of what I think are the best family and non-family friendly shows and mini-series in which sports play an integral part of the storyline.
If you feel that this list is missing something or that the rankings are way off, sound off.
How a Northern Liberal Embraced NASCAR
On July - 10 - 2009
Once, I held NASCAR in only slightly lower contempt than I had for professional wrestling.
Third-generation rednecks running around in circles driving rolling billboards, getting in fights after races, wasting precious fossil fuel and observing beer-fueled fans treat it like professional wrestling, complete with its soap opera story lines.
I've come around, and become a fan.
In childhood, I remember Richard Petty driving like a maniac, and thinking "How cool!"
Then, puberty, adolescence and early adulthood took over, and knowing who I was and what I stood for, I knew I could never get a grip on NASCAR.
But, one year in the early part ...
Michael Phelps Saves Legacy by Prowess Milestone
On July - 10 - 2009
Our continent was confident all along that Michael Phelps wasn’t going to cease a prodigious water voyage.
He’s half man and half fish, with a savviest posture in Olympic-size pools that made him famous and America’s icon, ennobled of heroics and extraordinary swimming techniques.
Not only has the sport made him famous, but he was agile at amassing 14-Olympic gold medals and was easily classified as the world’s greatest swimmer, passing legendary water-sprinter Mark Splitz on the all-time list of Olympic gold.
A few months ago, quitting was something Phelps pondered.
Believe it or not, it would have being a huge gaffe of crippling ...
New Knick, Darko Milicic, and Serbians Played On as the Bombs Fell
On July - 9 - 2009
I have long believed something about international sports.
International sports are the only thing for foreign athletes to truly channel how they think and feel about the United States, and thus international sports serve as a "barometer" for what the world thinks about America.
When the United States goes deep in the World Cup for instance, they still want to win but they don't resent us as much, hence the United States outcome in the 2002 World Cup after the events of September 11, 2001.
My dad and I used to joke that the world would be off if all the world leaders were forced to ...
Pacer Profiling: Thoughts On The Bob Kravitz Article
On July - 9 - 2009
The Indiana Pacers aren't making any moves in free agency right now, but they are in the media spotlight. Bob Kravitz raised quite a fuss yesterday when he published an article titled "Are Pacers too White?" in the Indianapolis Star.
The article itself is somewhat oxymoronic in that Kravitz first rationalizes how increasing the percentage of white players in the NBA is not immoral and would be good for its fan base, but then he comes to the more politically correct conclusion that race isn't as relevant as talent.
However, Kravitz does deserve credit for publicly broaching a touchy topic that fans ...
All-Felony Team: Athletes or Criminals?
On July - 9 - 2009
Below I’ve listed athletes who, despite having everything that one could ask for, (fame, fortune and great careers), insisted on making horrendous decisions that altered their lives and the lives of others.
Before reading, I must warn you that O.J. Simpson is not on this list. He’s been the scapegoat of this category too long. Nor is Michael Vick. Dogs are animals, get over it.
This list could have included 50 or more athletes, but for the sake of brevity I only included six.

Carruth was a first-round draft pick by the Carolina Panthers in 1997. After a promising rookie season, followed ...
