What Are the New York Mets Worth?

By Joshua Lobdell On July - 30 - 2009
The New York Mets were added to the National League as an expansion franchise in 1962. Their addition was a response to two different baseball issues: the exodus of the Giants and Dodgers from New York and the formation of a third baseball league, the Continental League. The National League—which in those days operated more independently from the MLB as a whole—decided to expand by two teams and offered ownership of a New York franchise to the Continental League’s ownership group. This group included Joan Payson and her husband Charles Shipman and also William Shea George Herbert Walker Jr. (uncle of President ...

Michael Phelps Loses: It Must Be the Suit

By Max Roosevelt On July - 30 - 2009
Tuesday was marked by a disturbing revelation in the world of sports. Michael Phelps was shown to no longer be the fastest thing in water. He was seemingly dominated in the 200m freestyle at the World Swimming Championships by Paul Biedermann of Germany. Not only did Biedermann defeat Phelps, he also erased one of his records, finishing the race in 1:42.00, almost an entire second faster than Phelps’ Olympic time. So who exactly is Paul Biedermann? The 22-year-old German holds two world records (200m freestyle and 400m freestyle), both of which he notched at these World Swimming Championships. He DID compete in the ...

NY Giant Ticket Madness: Too Little Too Late

By Craig J. Santucci On July - 30 - 2009
I received a call today from a good friend of mine.  For the past 20 years, he has sat next to me in Giant Stadium.  The tradition of watching Big Blue spans over 40 years as our fathers have been going together since 1969.  They have seen the Giants play at Yale Bowl, the original Yankee Stadium and of course...Giant Stadium.  We have seen many great moments over the years and are very fortunate to have had tickets for such a long span of time. So, this conversation focuses on the Giants and the upcoming year.  We banter back and forth about ...

(This is Mia St. John's second "hot" list. Yowza.) Inspired by my recent "Top 15" of attractive women athletes, I came across an interesting find in the sports world: A ridiculous amount of athletic babes that have posed nude. While this low morality fiber may not be everyone's cup of tea, and being a strong-willed man, it isn't even always mine, this is still some information that's too good to not be shared. Without further haste, here are the top female athletes to show off a little more than sweat and tears.

You Talkin’ To Me? Is Blogging Heroic or Villainous?

By David Xaviel is the Hobby Horse On July - 30 - 2009
"You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me?  You talkin' to me?  Then who the hell else are you talkin' to? You talkin' to me? Well I'm the only one here.  Who the f*** do you think you're talking to?" "Roger Ebert called this quote 'the truest line in the film.'  This line was also described by Ebert as 'Travis Bickle's ... desperate need to make some kind of contact somehow—to share or mimic the effortless social interaction he sees all around him, but does not participate in.'" I also like this Kris Kristofferson song, which was used in Taxi Driver.  ...
