If Arrogance Were Taught Properly…

By Dann Khan On August - 29 - 2009
Given as the reason for all the problems, Accused of tampering with perfectly good brains, I cry and hide from thou Yes, I am scared of thy fury, I am scared. Not cause I can't faceth thy fiery mouth, But cause I cannot bare lies   Lies. Or rather combination of lies and ignorance Ignorance of my truth   Truth, which is like a ambrosia if taken in right quantity But, ambrosia along with pain if taken out of proportion   If you ask me what I think of arrogance, this is what I will say. You may think I myself must be a very arrogant person to advocate arrogance. But let me tell you, no person ...

Milton Bradley: Borderline Personality Disorder?

By Illya Harrell On August - 28 - 2009
Is Milton Bradley a jerk?  Well, it's probably safe to say that not many baseball (especially Cubs) fans would invite him to be a FriendFace buddy. But back to the question—yes, Bradley is a jerk. Big time. However, anyone who has watched or heard of his odd moods and violent behavior should be asking, "What in the hell would drive someone to be such a lunatic?" For a psychiatrist or any student who has paid attention through an abnormal psychology course, the diagnosis is glaringly obvious. Bradley has all the symptoms of a Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Yes, that does sound like a lame excuse...and ...

The Legend That Is Arthur Ashe

By Blaine Spence On August - 28 - 2009
It is really a shame that so many people remember Arthur Ashe as “the black tennis player that died from AIDS.” To say that the man was so much more would simply be an understatement.   Early Life Most biographies of famous players always seem to start out with where the person was born, who their parents were, etc. That is in large part due to the significance of those facts in shaping a person’s life. This article is no different. Arthur Robert Ashe Jr. was born to Arthur Sr. and Mattie Ashe in 1943. The family lived in Richmond, Va., and Ashe’s father’s job as ...

The Gary Deberry Theory Can be Applied to Milton Bradley

By Ryne E. Hancock On August - 28 - 2009
Ever knew the guy in high school who had all the talent, all the girls, and scholarships from all corners of the country, yet he blows it by doing something stupid? In high school, I remember a couple of those guys, one was a guy by the name of Gary DeBerry, who at last check was working in the Wal-Mart in Whitehaven on Highway 51 and Holmes Road, who had God-given talent but screwed it up by being a douchebag. Maybe Milton Bradley was one of those guys in high school that had an inferiority complex because he shared his name with ...

Milton Bradley and Rick Pitino: Partners in Narcissism

By Andrew Nuschler On August - 28 - 2009
It's a sad truth, but inordinate fascination with oneself is hardly reason to single out a professional athlete or high-paid coach. You could make a pretty safe argument that egocentricity has become the rule rather than the exception amongst those two groups. Nevertheless, individuals come and go who distinguish themselves even from the swell-headed pack. Sometimes, a dynamic duo wrangled for the self-love spotlight. Thanks to Milton Bradley and Rick Pitino, we have such a scenario on our hands. Though, in truth, it's not much of a fight—the Louisville Cardinals' head coach has Uncle Miltie walloped since his transgression is far worse and ...

Random Selection, Contrived Reading, or “Like” in B/R

By Damali Binta Yael On August - 28 - 2009
Recently, there was an article with more than 1600 hits. The day I read it, no "likes" were posted. How can that happen? Years ago, I considered myself an advocate for certain causes or issues. In this article, my personality from the 1960's is awakening. It was near the time of the national tragedies of Jack Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Robert Kennedy, a type of "research personality" rose up to spur deeper thinking and growth in our national community. Ted Kennedy just made his transition. Perhaps, this is causing an old "persona" to rise up and to analyze the climate in local, national, international, and ...

Gone But Never Forgotten: A Tribute To My Late Father

By Doug Rush On August - 28 - 2009
After reading Joe Yanarella's story on the loss of his father, it got me thinking and remembering back to my late father and how we also shared a lot of bonding through sports and life. Born in 1984, I was the only son my mom and he had, so I was the one he would share any sports moments and history with. Growing up, he was a huge Boston Celtics and the rivalries of the Celtics-Lakers and Celtics-Pistons is what I grew up on. When I was about one in 1985 in the NBA Finals, Kevin McHale threw Kurt Rambis to the ...
