Gone But Never Forgotten: A Tribute To My Late Father
On August - 28 - 2009
After reading Joe Yanarella's story on the loss of his father, it got me thinking and remembering back to my late father and how we also shared a lot of bonding through sports and life.
Born in 1984, I was the only son my mom and he had, so I was the one he would share any sports moments and history with.
Growing up, he was a huge Boston Celtics and the rivalries of the Celtics-Lakers and Celtics-Pistons is what I grew up on. When I was about one in 1985 in the NBA Finals, Kevin McHale threw Kurt Rambis to the ...
SFU to Leave Candian Interuniversity Sport for NCAA DII? It needs to be stopped.
On August - 28 - 2009
I was moderately suprised to see Simon Fraser leaving Canadian Interuniversity Sport to become a member of the NCAA's Division II. I had thought that their desire to move was strictly theoretical—hot air designed to light a fire under CIS membership.
That apparently was not the case. They will play in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in 2011. In CIS, SFU played at the highest level of competition in Canada. In Division II, they will be an afterthought in the USA.
I think this is potentially a horribly distructive move and the Canadian Government should put an end to this, but lets look at ...

Central Florida Women’s Volleyball Gears Up for Exciting 2009 Season
On August - 27 - 2009
The Central Florida women's volleyball season begins this Friday, Aug. 28, at The Venue, and this is no ho-hum season.
The black and gold's 2009 edition features eight rookies, and second-year head coach Todd Dagenais is in command.
In 2008, he led the squad to a 15-17 record, the best since 2003, and a 6-10 C-USA record, the best finish in school history.
Dagenais has a lot of expectations for this year's Lady Knights, including finishing in the top 75 in the country. They also have a tough schedule including matches against teams such as No. 11 Purdue, No. 13 Tulane (C-USA), and ...

11 Reasons Why The Lions Make The ‘2010′ Playoffs
On August - 27 - 2009
During a recent television broadcast of 60 Minutes, Michael Vick told James Brown, “It’s the only way I made it through prison...believing in God.”
When I mentally committed to taking the keys to the Detroit Lions for a season upon purchasing Madden 2010, I was thinking, "If I was going to make it through this, I too, would need a great deal of help from the man upstairs."
After all, I’m investing 45 minutes of my time, for 16 games.* The main reason I play those 16 games is to earn a reward of possibly playing for the Lombardi Trophy. If I ...

On August - 27 - 2009
The Michael Vick halftime show is coming to an end. At 8 pm tonight in Philadelphia, the second half of his career will begin.
It was two years ago this month that Vick pleaded guilty to felony charges of dog fighting. In November of that same year Vick entered prison to begin serving a 23-month sentence.
Now Vick has come full circle and will once again step onto the grand stage of the NFL.
This moment has been in the planning since the day details of this heinous crime were made public.
While the details of this case made headlines on every media outlet, ...

Pattern Recognition, Part Two: Number of HOF Recipients by NFL Franchise
On August - 27 - 2009
It's the 21st century. Technology has invaded all aspects of our lives. Subjectivity is less tolerable when there are ways of measuring and quantifying attributes of a group, population, or NFL franchise.
The source of the data for this article is a database of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The data has been aggregated by NFL franchises.
Examining the data reveals some new information which may challenge earlier assumptions about the teams that have had Hall-of-Famers, at some point in their history.
For example, some folks think that the Oakland Raiders have not received enough recognition at the Pro Football Hall of ...
