— Eric Cantona

Remembering My Father: A Sports Son’s Tribute
On August - 27 - 2009
I lost my father this week.
More precisely, he passed away yesterday after a brief battle with cancer.
And despite the heartache and pain and void I feel after an emotionally draining and gut-wrenching few weeks, my mind keeps drifting back to sports.
Because that was the bond that tied my father and I together.
As the youngest of five children—and the only boy—I didn’t share long heartwarming talks with my Dad. He came from a generation where the father provided and the mother nurtured. My father and I didn’t talk about sex. We didn’t share secrets about money. A phone conversation with my ...

Wrestling Wrecked my Body
On August - 27 - 2009
I woke up, lying in the middle of my school, with pain in my head and nothing in my stomach. I didn't wake up from a nap, I passed out in the pool room. I rolled over, staring at the ceiling, and at that moment I realized, this was the worst moment of my life.
I had just finished my daily weight cutting for my wrestling team. Today, I cut eight and one half pounds, the most I have ever lost in a day. I came into my freshman year at 5' 6'' and 120 lbs. with nine percent body fat. ...

The Boston Red Sox Second Most Famous Ted….May He Rest In Peace
On August - 26 - 2009
My Dad, Marty, drinks coffee each morning with the old farts down at McDonald's. Each of the Alter Kockers (Yiddish for old goat) has their self proclaimed assigned seat. Marty's seat is the furthest seat to the left because as Marty states "there is no one further to the left of center" in regards to their political views.
So it should come as no surprise that the entire Civin family is mourning the loss of the liberal Democrat Senator from Massachusetts Edward "Ted" Kennedy, who died this morning at the Kennedy Compound in Hyannis, MA after battling brain cancer.

Beer Cans to Stay Lame
On August - 26 - 2009
If you are hoping to see more Scarlet and Gray at tailgates this fall you are not going to get any help from Anheuser-Busch InBev or the FTC.
The great minds behind Bud Light have decided that the many major college football regions should have cans adorned with the colors of their favorite team.
“We’ve told them we don’t ever want to see a campaign like this again,” said Janet Evans, a senior attorney with the Federal Trade Commission.
“We’re concerned about the promotion because it’s targeted to college campuses where there are a large number of binge drinkers and underage persons in the audience.”
