Caster Semenya is a 18-year-old woman from South Africa who became headline news after winning the gold medal in the 800m World Championship race. Here's the clip of the 800m race . The reason her story came to the forefront of the sports world was that she had an above average testosterone level after a random drug test after she won the gold medal. It was leaked to the media that Semenya had no ovaries and internal testes. Here's a link to an article from the New York Post "Runner has No Ovaries ." The actual genetic testing will be kept confidential. South Africa has allowed ...
If you believe some of the sentiment found on blogs such as ‘And the Valley Shook’ as well as other Internet outlets, including the new Facebook feature allowing comments on LSU’s official website, LSU Sports, the Tigers’ most successful coach—by winning percentage anyway—could find his tenure defined by one single second on the clock.   Coach Les Miles has never won over all LSU fans—for some it’s that he’s not his predecessor (Nick Saban), while for others it’s that he never will be—despite having as much, if not more, success as Saban, or any coach in school history for that matter; comparatively.   Yet, ...

Are The Oakland Raiders Getting Comfortable With Losing?

By Damali Binta Yael On November - 20 - 2009
Am I lucky or what? One of my calculus students surprised me with his comments on Wednesday night before class. He said, "Guess what, Professor? I flew to Oakland and attended the game on Sunday." I was surprised. I had just read a comment from a neuromuscular dentist and I was surprised at the student's comment about the Oakland Raiders. He continued by telling me that he and his guest sat in the best seats at the stadium. After the game, he said they went to a fine restaurant.  Yes, they had a party and had a great time. I asked, "Were any of ...

World Football: Don’t Make Another Mistake, Michael Zorc…

By Christian Wiese On November - 20 - 2009
Michael Zorc, General Manager of Borussia Dortmund, isn't really known for making good transfers and singing the right players. This was proven about a year ago when Zorc let Petric, one of the best players in Dortmund with a nice "Rosicky" future go in order to get about $8 Million plus Zidan. While Zidan couldn't get the real break trough in Mainz, Zorc must have believed somehow that he would be able to that at a better team. Don't get me wrong, Michael Zorc did great things for Borussia Dortmund as a player, but I really question his skills as a GM. A few ...

Highlight Reel From Bill Simmons’ Portland Book Signing

By Keith Becker uosportsdude.com On November - 20 - 2009
Normally, highlight videos are reserved for athletes. Very rarely will you see one for a pudgy 40-year-old, with graying hair and a nasally voice that resembles a cross between Fran Drescher and SpongeBob SquarePants. But then there’s Bill Simmons, the man who became famous by writing two columns a month relating sports to pop culture and recording an hour-long conversations with his friends three times a week. When Bill Simmons announced he was coming to Portland as a stop on the tour for the release of his latest book, “The Book of Basketball”, I knew I had to go. There was no ...
A tribute to a personal heroine who celebrates her 66th birthday on 22nd November. A first impression What was it about one particular woman, wielding her wooden racket in the black and white world of 1960s television, that imprinted itself in this fan’s memory? She came from another country, and she played a game I had barely learned to understand, let alone master. To me, she looked middle-aged even though still in her early 20s. She was ordinary in appearance but unusual in demeanor. I knew nothing of her background nor of her achievements in tennis—other than she had just beaten the ...
Worcester Sharks President and CEO Michael T. On December 3, 1999 a five-alarm fire began in the Worcester Cold Storage Warehouse in Worcester, Massachusetts and raged for six days. Six brave firefighters lost their lives, Firefighters Paul Brotherton, Jeremiah Lucey, Timothy Jackson, James Lyons, Joseph McGuirk ...

Worst Celebrity Sports Couples of All Time

By Greg Riot On November - 19 - 2009
WORST CELEBRITY COUPLES PAIRS OF ALL TIME? WELL, HERE’S SOME OF THEM It is quite possible that these are not the absolute worst of all-time, as we could certainly find others with more painstaking research. But these are enough for now. Hey - we could surely come up with a lot more in the way of couples if fellatio was a sport (at least officially), because there are plenty of candidates who were probably consummate pros in that area. Think of the possibilities. Begin Slideshow
Through my promoting of the award winning children's story, A Glove of Their Own, I have been introduced to some tremendous human beings and some absolutely incredible causes. Coach Bob Salomon, the coach of A Glove of Their Own has a heart the size of New Jersey and tries to help every first class human being and every worthwhile cause he can through the Pay It Forward message of the book. As the unofficial media department for Bob and his book, I am often introduced to the many friends from the sports world that Bob makes and often try to promote their ...
Marilou Dozois-Prévost is certainly no stranger to the international weightlifting competition stage. Having competed in the Beijing Olympics last year, the Commonwealth Games, as well as a few World Weightlifting Championships, she has shown promise into becoming one of the top athletes of her sport. Training and competing in a few local events back in her native Canada, Prévost is preparing for this year's World Weightlifting Championships in Goyang, South Korea (Nov. 17-29). Previously, this sensational 23-year-old in action was last seen in action at the '08 Games, placing 10th in the 48kg (105.82 lbs) weight class. About 14 months later, Prévost has upgraded, ...
