State Championship No Accident for Prepared Cincinnati Academy
On November - 18 - 2009
Sports champions know, the downpayment for titles earned is paid for months before the competition with hours upon hours of preparation. Sure, everyone does drills and weight training, but the teams that stand out go the extra mile to prepare for the best competition.
For Ursuline Academy in Cincinnati, preparation for its latest championship in volleyball, fourth overall, started two years ago, when the school brought in the Sportsmetrics program to prepare its athletes.
What is Sportsmetrics? It is a training program that helps athletes, especially female athletes learn how to jump, land and balance to help prevent the devastating knee injuries ...
Sports: Humanity’s Greatest Creation
On November - 18 - 2009
Sports. Whatever sport it is, lump them all together, and they are the greatest thing God has given us in the history of humanity! They've been around forever, and people from every age have gathered around to watch and see what is going to happen. Competitor against competitor to see who will win, and how it will happen. Gladiator vs Gladiator; Olympian vs Olympian; Phillies vs Yankees.
People have been finding ways to compete at anything for the entire span of human history, and we will continue to do so until the end of the world.
I will admit that it seems a bit ...

What is a sport?
There are so many activities, games, and competitions in our world today that it can be difficult to decipher what is a sport and what is not. Some may say that this is a relatively easy question to answer, “just throw on ESPN, if it’s on the World Wide Leader, it must be a sport” or, “find out what was included in the Olympics last time around, they include every sport.”
Right, because cheerleading, poker, and trampoline are definitely sports. But then again, maybe they are.
According to Dictionary.com, sport is defined as, “1: an athletic activity requiring ...
Team Hoyt and Other Legends Show That Heroes Come In All Sizes
On November - 18 - 2009
As my wife, Kate, and I took the right hand turn into the lot of Christina's Restaurant in Foxboro last night, my hands began to sweat. We had been asked to attend the Legends Ball to Benefit the Hockomock Area YMCA as dinner guests of Team Hoyt, and though excited, I have to admit I was a bit unnerved.
The thought of breaking bread with the immortal Dick and Rick Hoyt, while sitting in the shadows of some of the greatest heroes in New England sports made my heart palpitate at humming bird speed as I handed my keys to ...
State of Washington Bans Sport of Football (Satire)
On November - 18 - 2009
In a move that some have felt is a long time coming, Washington State Governor Christine Gregoire has announced an official ban on the sport of football.
Citing the violent nature of the sport, Gregoire said that she,"Did not feel that the sport of football accurately represented the peaceful citizens of Washington State." Despite having a strong history, dating back to the 1890's, there has been a strong behind-the-scenes movement to destroy support for the sport. Gregoire elaborated by commenting,"It has been a long process that has gone on through a couple of decades. The first seeds were planted when ...
One Writer Preaching to the Masses: Five Tips to Avoid Being Hated on B/R
On November - 17 - 2009
During my time here on Bleacher Report , I have been guilty of every single faux pas that I am going to preach about in this article.
However, I have seen my ways, and I have vowed to give it my best effort to change my criticisms from harsh to constructive, my time spent reading from lazy to devoted, and my opinions from closed to open.
That's just me. I've come to terms with my own thoughts and ideas about certain people, articles, ideas, and philosophies on this site.
While I know where I stand, who I've wronged, and where I've gone ...
No. 1 Findlay Prep Begins High School Hoops Title Defense
On November - 16 - 2009
When a team finishes a season 33-0 and wins the High School Basketball National Championship, the bar can be set no higher.
As a new season began on Friday, Nov. 13, there was a buzz of anticipation, nervousness, and excitement in the air at the Henderson International Gymnasium.
This was the first test for a team that enters the season as the preseason No. 1 team in the nation according to many high school basketball publications, most notably the ESPNU National Poll.
However, this is not the same Findlay Prep team of last year.
There are still three senior returning players left from last ...
Injuries In The NHL On The Rise: Heads Up!
On November - 16 - 2009
I don't think poor Don Henderson (above) could get much prettier!
The subject of injuries to hockey players, specifically NHL players, has once again been thrust to the forefront.
With the focus primarily on the perceived increase of " head-shots ", GMs, while meeting in Toronto this past week, agreed to em-panel a study group of managers to research the phenomenon. The group will report to the league’s General Manager meeting in February in Boca Raton.
“I do think there’s a sense that when there is a shot to the head to a player who is vulnerable or unsuspecting, ...

November 16, 2009 edition
New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick must have lost his mind. How many teams go for it on fourth down inside their own 30 yard line, with a lead and just over two minutes left? I can't think of too many who would. Doesn't matter if his defense might have been gassed; just too big a risk.
That decision added to the mega drama of probably the best game of the NFL season thus far as Indianapolis Colts came back from a 31-14 deficit to win 35-34. Give the Colts credit. They did not panic ...
It’s Five Straight for Japan As Yomiuri Clobbers Kia
On November - 15 - 2009
It seems as if the Asia Series has turned into the Nippon Professional Baseball Invitational Challenge yet again.
Well, actually it's now known as the Japan-Korea Club Championship, with China's teams unable to save its former identity.
Nevertheless, it was more of the same. For the fifth straight year, Japan's champion has risen to the accolade of Beast from the Far East.
This year it was the Yomiuri Giants, who took Korea's Kia Tigers to the woodshed at Nagasaki's Big N Stadium, 9-4.
The Tigers, led by Na Ji-Wan, stormed out of the gates early with a 3-0 lead. Giants starting pitcher Dicky Gonzalez gave ...
