Chris Henry: Darwin Award Candidate 2009
On December - 17 - 2009
Death.
Happens every day to thousands of people. It's as much a part of life as living and breathing.
Chris Henry was just one of the many who died on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009.
And it's safe to say that of those who died on that day, Henry undoubtedly was on the lower end of the character spectrum.
"Oh, but he had turned his life around."
Ha! Then why was he in the back of a pick-up truck trying to break through the glass to do God only knows what to his fiancée.
If this article sounds cruel, please stop reading.
What separates Chris Henry from those ...
Keeping Up with Your Favorite Teams
On December - 17 - 2009
NASCAR season is from February to November.
Baseball season is from March to October.
Hockey season is from October to June.
It's hard to keep up with all three of my favorite sports and the events that occur in each when you mix in the seasons overlapping, the length of the seasons, the amount of games, and life in general.
So when I was recently watching a Red Wings game and had absolutely no clue who the guy in the goal was, I felt like a failure of a fan. I'm used to Conklin in the goal when Osgood is off. Who is this ...
Advice To Professional Athletes: Don’t Workout
On December - 17 - 2009
Here’s some advice to all professional athletes.
Don’t hit the gym too hard, because if you begin to gain more muscle mass and definition, the court of public opinion will immediately rule that you are guilty of steroid use.
Tiger Woods has become more muscular over the years – STEROIDS!
Dara Torres couldn’t possibly look like that at her age – STEROIDS!
Albert Pujols has bulging biceps and hits 450-foot home runs with ease – STEROIDS!
It doesn’t matter that there’s absolutely no evidence to substantiate these claims; we simply see the way they look and make our decision.
But folks, looking solely at an ...
Colbert Nation Saves Olympic Speedskating, yet Colbert Undermines the Gold
On December - 17 - 2009
Unbelievably, that is a real issue of Sports Illustrated that is to be released.
After Stephen Colbert launched a phony campaign for president in 2008 with the sole purpose of making Doritos’s irresistible, it has been hard to take anything seriously from Colbert, with one big exception being the delectable crunch of Doritos.
Colbert thus overthrew the previous president of Doritos, Jay Leno, in a bloodless coup.
I do not consider myself the persuadable type; I even tried to be hypnotized once, and it did not take. I used to wonder how much easier life would be if I just allowed myself to ...
Boston Breakers’ Kristine Lilly Filled with the Spirit of Giving
On December - 17 - 2009
Ah, the holidays. A time to decorate the house, shop for gifts, bundle up and drink some hot chocolate. A time to sing carols, watch TV specials and spend some quality time with the family.
It's also a time to bring tidings of comfort and joy.
The Who Gives? campaign by Athletes for Hope does just that. The charitable organization that assists athletes in contributing to the community started its campaign with an online debate that asks the question, "Do professional athletes have an obligation to give back to the community?" Athletes including Tony Hawk, Mia Hamm, Steve Nash and Heather Mitts ...
Big Ten Looks To Create Another Made-for-Television Conference
On December - 17 - 2009
If the Big Ten decides to extend an invitation to Notre Dame, Pitt, Rutgers, Missouri, or anyone else in the coming years, it would be the latest example of television money fueling conference realignment in college football.
Believe or not, there was a time when television did not dominate the sport.
From the 1950's through the early '80s, every NCAA institution was a part of the same television package. To protect attendance figures and to get as many teams exposure as possible, the NCAA actually limited the amount of games a team could appear on television.
For powerhouses such as Oklahoma and ...
High School Hoops: No. 1 Findlay Prep Passes First Test of Crucial Stretch
On December - 16 - 2009
Entering last night's game versus Houston Christian Life Center (TX), Findlay Prep found themselves sitting at 11-0 after withstanding several charges on the road from teams hungry to knock them off their throne.
Last night had a different feeling. It was the first game at the Pilots' home court, Henderson International School, where an opponent came in thinking they had a legitimate shot at pulling the upset.
For the most part this season, the Pilots have run laps around the competition at home, winning by an average margin of 48.5 points per game. It was apparent that the 12-1 Houston Christian squad came ...
Cutting-Edge Canadian Sports Doctor Subject of F.B.I. Investigation
On December - 14 - 2009
An interesting and timely article appears on the front page of The New York Times website.
Titled, "Sports Medicine Pioneer Subject of Doping Inquiry," it tells of a "Canadian doctor who is under investigation by the F.B.I. because he is suspected of providing athletes with performance-enhancing drugs."
Please check it out at the following link. You might notice some familiar names.

It wasn't all that long ago that so many of us were either blinded by or failed to see what was going on in Major League Baseball. Take a look back at some of baseball's stars prior to the early 1990's. Look ...
The Top 10 Worst Adulterers
On December - 14 - 2009
Tiger Woods’ women are coming out of the woodwork to slam his reputation into a water hazard, but he isn’t the only infidel to grace the public’s scorecard.
In case you’ve lost track, there are least nine other jackasses that deserve public mention. Amongst them are these fine gentlemen. Thanks for lowering the bar, fellas!
10. David Letterman
David Letterman avoided public scrutiny by addressing his embarrassing internship affairs during a comedic monologue during an episode of Late Night With David Letterman. Of course, none of us were surprised that Letterman banged his interns.
Seriously, ...
On The First Day of Christmas, ESPN Gave to Me…An Unbelievable Streak
On December - 14 - 2009
In honor of the 12 Days of Christmas, I will be highlighting a new story each day until Christmas. I will start with day one and finish with day 12 on Christmas Day.
On the first day of Christmas, ESPN gave to me....a streak that will not be broken.
Yes, it is college women's volleyball and most people do not care or even realize that is a competitive sport. But this is the most impressive streak I have seen, even more impressive than Cal Ripken and Brett Favre.
It is one thing to continue playing; it is another to continue to win.
The Penn ...
