Is Lance Armstrong the Next Hero To Fall?

By Bill Cody On July - 22 - 2010
Sad news today. In the face of the a federal doping investigation, Lance Armstrong hired a criminal attorney. Of course he made the usual caveats. According to the AP, Armstrong made this statement, "Obviously, you need some legal counsel on this...I wouldn't read anything into it, I'm 100 percent confident that there will be a satisfactory resolution for me." Sounds like deja vu all over again to me. And not in a good way. The investigation was spurred by allegations from former teammate Floyd Landis. You remember Landis. He's the American that followed Armstrong onto the winner's stand at the Tour De France only to ...

Why Do Professional Sports Continue To Disappoint Us?

By Bailey Brautigan On July - 22 - 2010
We are all guilty of it. Whether we are watching ESPN or reading articles on Bleacher Report, we always pay more attention to negative (or at least “negative-sounding”) stories. Admit it. During an episode of SportsCenter , you secretly wish that Stuart Scott will just skip to the tab reading “Vick in Trouble Again.” We immerse ourselves in negativity, and we wonder why athletes and teams continue to make disappointing moves. Like neglected children, they can only gain our attention by lashing out. Our sports figures have some serious behavioral problems, and we can only blame our own obsession with negative hype ...
I'm 34 years old, but when it comes to discussing the different tastes my children and I have in hip-hop music, I feel much, much older, and the disconnect between us can be frustrating at times. I came of age during a time when artists like Nas, the Notorious B.I.G., and Tupac ruled the airwaves and the public conscience of anyone who truly loved hip-hop. The message those artists conveyed in their music resonated in a way that today's artists fail to understand, or simply choose to ignore completely. Lil' Wayne, Drake, and Soulja Boy are three of my children's favorite hip-hop artists, ...

Ranking the 40 Hottest MLB WAGs of All-Time

By Thomas Delatte On July - 22 - 2010
It is now time to present the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame. This is a list of the hottest WAGs in MLB history. We have seen many beautiful women involved with many different MLB players, but this list is the best of the best. The babes that we will not bother looking at, over and over again. Those that are so hot, we don't even bother reading the commentary and instead we stare at the beauty in front of our eyes. Of course, I had to include Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez's WAG lists, and that was pretty much my ...
Let me start by saying that I know many kids make it to the NFL or NBA and make millions of dollars.  I get it.  These guys get a free education and get treated like royalty.  However, a lot of these guys are hurting.  Their family situations really suck—and don't pretend like you understand.  Some of these kids come from terrible homes or their parents are in a terrible spot. So, they may be treated very well and get a free education.  Some of them may be spoiled.  Some of them may be jerks.  I get that. A lot of kids are not.  ...
“Here Comes the Judge” was a familiar cry in my community programs in the Nation’s Capitol.  My work with at-risk children made me a frequent visitor to the DC Superior Court. Most people in the community and the media remember my program Kids In Trouble, Inc. as being associated with professional athletes (NFL, NBA & MLB) and rightfully so. NBA Hall of Fame player, native Washingtonian and now Mayor of Detroit Dave Bing was the first to join the Kids In Trouble team in 1967. NFL Hall of Fame player and Native Washingtonian Willie Wood would join the team in 1968. Many have ...

Tribute To a Lost Friend

By Anakin Cane On July - 22 - 2010
Today I lost a great friend. Many of us take our pets for granted. We think they will always be there for us, wagging their tails, waiting on a hug or belly rub. We try not to think to much when they pass, but after all, they become part of who we are and part of our family. This is my tribute to a great dog, a great protector of the yard, a great mother to her pups, and most of all a great companion and friend, Amidala. I take time to honor her memory with those great animal in sport. ...

A Tour of Survival for Riders

By David Klein On July - 21 - 2010
Best sports Feats David Klein                                                     A Tour of Survival   I don’t watch much of the Tour de France. I would probably rather watch baseball and paint dry to be honest with you. I will say that they accomplish an amazing feat, riding 2,200 miles over 21 days; most of it up high mountain passes. That’s incredible endurance and fortitude to last that long on a bike. For comparison sake, imagine riding the equivalent of three Mount Everests, up and down. The Tour de France is also like completing a marathon every day for 21 days. ...

Race Relations: The Cleveland Pro Superstar

By Dan Smith On July - 21 - 2010
The Cleveland metro area has more than 2 million people living in it. Of those people, 1.6 million are called "non-hispanic white" according to figures .  The perception of the greater Cleveland area is that it is predominantly white. In this case, perception is reality. Cleveland's pro franchises have had six superstars of note—from Jim Brown to LeBron James—that I want to discuss.  Brown retired at the age of 29 as the NFL's all-time leading rusher. He delivered championships to Cleveland as no other superstar had. In his post NFL career, Brown has been an advocate of race relations in America. As a strong, ...
