On the 22nd day of March during a wide-ranging span of years throughout history, the Heavens parted and out dropped the likes of many famous individuals from various walks of life including: comedian Chico Marx (1887), actor Karl Malden (1912), "Captain Kirk" William Shatner (1931), Canadian figure skater Elvis Stojko (1972), actress Reese Witherspoon (1976), composer Andrew Lloyd Weber (1948) and sportscaster Bob Costas (1952). Each spent this day celebrating the anniversary of their birth some number of years ago.
Little did Boston Breakers' midfielder Jen Nobis know that when parents Pam and Mike Nobis headed for that little hospital in ...
Here is Part two of my three part series 'Violence and Aggression In Sports.' Thanks to those of you out there taking the time to read an in depth article on this dangerous sports trend.
Although aggressive behaviors may sometimes provide catharsis, an opposing view is that participating in or viewing aggressive behaviors is more likely to elicit greater amounts of aggression than to result in decreased aggression (e.g.; Bandura and Waiters, 1974; Berkowitz, 1970; Geen, Stonner, and Shope, 1975).
Gelfand and Hartmann (1982) found that participation in competitive games raised boys' and girls' levels of aggression, regardless of competition outcome (Nucci ...
It takes a special breed of woman to be a Bond Girl. Not only does James Bond's sexy wing lady have to be hot, she has to be skillful with some tool that will make her useful for the world's leading spy in and out of the bedroom.
The next installment in the James Bond series currently sits in pre-production and is set for release in 2011. That got us thinking about ten hot female athletes who could fit the bill as Bond's sexy sidekick. The following ladies come from various sports with various background that can ...
A taste of things to come. In my personal opinion there is no one hotter in our out of the cage than the girls of MMA. That’s right, I said it, and you can quote me on it. Some of these girls REALLY get down, and I mean in a ground and pound kind of way. After looking at these lovely ladies you will see what I mean.
With UFC 111 coming up I decided to heat things up in the right way by starting out with three Octagon Girls currently hired by the ...
Erin Andrews turned out to be a hit in her debut on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars". Andrews burned up the dance floor and showed that she can handle the spotlight and the dance steps to become a reality television show star.
It is not easy to make the jump to reality show stardom (or maybe it is?), either way Andrews showed with her performance on Dancing With the Stars that she is more than a microphone jockey for ESPN. With that in mind, we thought about 10 other reality shows Andrews would also star in. Begin Slideshow
Tiger looks worse after the latest interviews. It’s just more controlling the situation with ESPN and Golf Channel. He would only talk for five minutes. The interview couldn’t air until 7:30 p.m. He had to be standing really close to the interviewer. He would only reply to questions beginning with a prime number. The whole act is just wearing thin.
Just zip it until your first Masters round, Eldrick. There are no more answers here. Tiger is just spewing psychobabble now. He said he did some really bad things but won’t say what.
The problem here is he already looked and sounded ...
It’s possible that if you’re a male sports fan you may be faced with the same problem that I’ve been dealing with lately. Explaining to your wife/girlfriend/significant other how it is possible that male athletes seem incapable of keeping their focus when it comes to committed relationships?
I’m not sure how I became the spokesperson for the rest of my kind. I have valiantly tried to frame my responses to ensure that we, males, are not all viewed as creatures with the same mind and motivations that get these few sports stars targeted in the press.
It’s easy for me to fall ...
The NFL has a committee.
The NCAA has conducted studies.
The State of Washington passed a law.
Concussions are the hot topic in football outside of the NFL draft.
While there has been a lot of medical evidence gathered, studies are admittedly still far from complete. Post-concussive tests, baseline tests and post-career tests are all being conducted.
It is only a matter of time before the medical sciences map out the physical damage done by concussions—both immediate and long-term effects.
Who will study the psychological effects?
And not the psychology of the brain and the impact of a concussion, but the psychology of the locker room and the machismo that accompanies it.
It ...
I know this is a risky venture, since most readers are used to short, concise sports reporting or opinion, but I am going to give it a shot anyway.
This is a piece I wrote about some causes for violent and aggressive behavior in and at sporting events.
I am presenting it here in three parts and I hope you all find the time to gain some knowledge on this subject.
It has been said of sport, "It does not create the conditions for war, but it does maintain the possibility of those conditions, and adds its own efficiency to the other forces ...
Back in mid-2008, I wrote a post about the changing landscape of sports in America and remarked:
My personal opinion is that if MMA were a stock, you should be backing up the truck to buy.
The results are in. UFC 100 led all PPV buys, and the organization accounted for six of the top 10 buys in 2009. Add in the “minor league” (organizations like the WEC, EliteXC, and Strikeforce), and MMA’s financial and cultural penetration is deep.
Only boxing’s Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr—charismatic, singular, once-in-a-lifetime pugilistic talents—can compete with MMA’s dozen deep roster of pay proven superstars, in terms of fan ...
