We Are The World: 1985 Vs 2010 Head to Head

By John Mabasa On March - 17 - 2010ADD COMMENTS
I was looking around YouTube a few days ago and stumbled upon the "We are the World 25" video. I guess this is to mark the 25th anniversary of the song, and at the same time, raise some money for the victims of Haiti. I will admit that I am partial to the original. In fact, I don't think the 2010 remake comes close. That said, maybe I have lost touch of what is "cool" these days. I am in my 30's after all. So just to be fair I have decided to do a head to head match up of the soloists. To make ...
The Louisiana Swashbucklers were scheduled to take on the Houston Lightning in the season opener for both teams this coming Saturday evening at the Lake Charles Civic Center at 7:00pm.   In a press release posted on their Web site, the Houston Lightning have announced they will not play during the 2010 season and are shutting down operations:   Our season is set to open March 20, 2010, against the Louisiana Swashbucklers. After meeting with Tom Hager, President of the SIFL, on March 10, 2010 we have made the decision to not field the Houston Lightning this year. This decision is directly related to ...
I love waking up to St. Patrick’s Day in New York City. You walk outside and the air seems fresher, filled with an Irish Spring scent. The people seem friendlier. You feel spring is right around the bend, and every bar seems like it is the greatest party you ever came across. Drinking is the activity of the day. So while the day is filled with jubilation and celebration to start, the night usually ends in debauchery and fisticuffs. It seems you can’t avoid a good drink on St. Patrick’s Day, or a good alteration for that matter. We celebrate the full spectrum ...
Over the past several months, one of my wildest baseball dreams has been realized. Having not been blessed with an overabundance of skill on the baseball field, it is beyond my greatest expectations that I would ever have the chance to rub elbows with one of the chosen ones who has been blessed with extraordinary baseball skills. As surreal as it seems to me, Cleveland Indians pitcher, Jason Grilli and I became buddies last November through our work with the award winning children's baseball book, A Glove of Their Own .  We have since become good friends over the six or so ...
The Beginning It all started the morning of "the crash." Tiger Woods mysteriously crashed his Escalade outside his home around 4 a.m. With reports of a serious injury, the sports world was concerned they had all the lost the world's biggest sports icon. Woods was a model person, someone that you would look up to. An individual that every company would want as a spokesman. An individual who had more money than I would know what to do with. A man who has his name in the biggest brands in the world—NIKE, Gatorade, and AT&T. Then "the crash" happened, and the world got a sneak peek ...
Some say that a man is known by the company he keeps. Nnamdi Asomugha has been known to be in the company of great men in America and in Nigeria. He seems to be using those contacts to help students and others. He is seen as a man who cares for people. So much bad press is given to stars and professional athletes that it just makes sense to focus on those who care about students and people in general. Asomugha has a first name which is the same as one of the names of the airport in Abuja, Nigeria. How do ...
The story behind the release of the Erin Andrews Stalker Video has finally come to an end. The stalker of ESPN sideline reporter Erin Andrews was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison for following Andrews and released a nude video of her. Andrews, who returned to work following a brief leave of absence, can take another step at settling what was no doubt a scary and invasive time in her life. With the settlement of sentencing of Andrews' stalker came the revelation of numerous sordid details about the affair that went on much longer than anyone anticipated. ...
Author's Note: This article was written Monday night, hours before Tiger made it known that he would in fact make the Masters his first event of the season. The piece is an argument as to why he MAY choose to do so, and not an explanation as to why he DID. Thank you for reading. Ever since Tiger Woods announced his indefinite leave from golf on Dece. 11, the single biggest question hanging over him and all of golf has been: When will Tiger return? If Tiger is bold, confident, and savvy, there’s only one answer to this question: The Masters. Before I ...
We've all seen our fair share of our favorite sports movies of all time. Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, Miracle, The Rookie, Remember the Titans, For the Love of the Game, the list goes on and on. But how many movies haven't been made? How many times have we watched our favorite sport and wondered if that person will ever be featured in a movie or their story be told. In the next 15 slides, we'll take a look at those famous coaches that are yet to have their live or career portrayed in a movie and the actors that ...
It seems like just yesterday we were gearing up for the 2009 season, but now we’re five weeks away from embarking on the 2010 NFL Draft.  For the first time, the draft will be a three-day event, making the gut-wrenching anticipation a prolong event, that will gather more interest from its national spectators. There are always plain and dull mock drafts available, but this is the first presented in a series with the needs of every franchise in comparison to the usual and a few unusual meal types you may find in your lunch menu.   1. St. Louis—Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska The Lambs in St. ...
