Fear, the Noble Thought

By antiMatter On August - 13 - 20091 COMMENT
In the beginning was the mind, and the mind was God. Thoughts follow the labyrinthine path of the lazy day-dreamer paying attention only to the beauty of the stunning views on the way, ever forgetting to docket the geography and form of the landmarks. The mind moves so fast that it spreads along its path in the form of a python, ever so long, getting longer by each passing moment, losing sight of its tail. It writhes this way and that in an attempt to unearth some secret, which it doesn't know by any of the five senses, nor by the cognition ...
My fantasy football draft is tonight, a trip to visit family in san francisco is tomorrow, senior year of college starts next week, and so on and so forth until the end of time. Damn, my life is starting to pick up speed. And that life, in many ways, has been marked by summer sports memories. Backyard catches with my dad, trying out for the travel soccer team, hours and hours of tackle football in my friend's basement. Watching Vince Carter's game seven three rim out against the sixers when I was thirteen, riding my bike to the card shop ...
Recently on youtube.com I was watching an old interview with then WWE Superstar Mr. Kennedy. This interview was done right after the Chris Benoit tragedy, about a week or so. During this time it seemed like every news outlet in America wanted an interview with Vince McMahon and/or his wrestlers. During the interview, Kennedy made a bold statement, he said that he believed the new crop of WWE talent was 100% clean in regards to steroids and prescription drugs. I was surprised to hear this, but then it made sense. And I'll explain. Of course as most of us know, Chris Benoit ...

Fear Is The Key…Be Afraid

By Saraswathi Sirigina On August - 13 - 2009ADD COMMENTS
For a view from an altria, check out Fear The Noble Thought from the man who defines the Big Bang, God Particle, antiMatter.   Have you ever been afraid? I'd been! Did you ever try to climb a mountain while looking down or was it always the peak that you kept under your radar as you started to put step after step to the top? The most important element is fear. Fear shadows the champion or the challenger. Fear is the companion of the winner or the loser. The winner fears to lose the winning streak and the loser of ever not getting there. The ...
Harvey Schiller, President of the International Baseball Federation (IBAF) could perhaps see the writing on the wall this morning when he logged onto his Facebook page. Perhaps more accurately, Schiller's friends and supporters of the game of baseball could see the writing on his wall. At 9:00 this morning, Schiller wrote on his Facebook profile, "Don't be surprised if rugby and softball are voted in for 2016: men's rugby and women's softball. Answers both the gender and quality issue with decreased roster size. We'll know in about an hour." As the clock struck 10:00 AM, Schiller's message seemed prophetic as the announcement was ...

The Wada Code: Is It Justified?

By Adam Wakefield On August - 13 - 2009ADD COMMENTS
The BCCI's recent refusal to become a signatory of the Wada (World Anti-Doping Agency) code opened a proverbial can of worms in relation to the invasive nature of testing. More specifically, athletes are aggrieved that they have to notify Wada, or the body that represents them that signed the Wada code, of their whereabouts for an hour everyday so that they are available for testing. A previous piece that was written by this author stated that the BCCI was obliged to sign the code, regardless of its invasive nature, due to the lack of viable alternative and what it implies about ...

The Real 10 Greatest Sports Movies of All Time

By Jason Flieder On August - 13 - 2009ADD COMMENTS
Okay - first off, no, Cutting Edge 2 is not on this list. For those of you worried about that, I apologize, I didn't want to give up any of my choices. For those of you who are now upset that Cutting Edge 2 will not be in this slideshow, you may be on the wrong website. So, an introduction. A few of my friends and I were talking about our favorite sports films the other day. Upon arriving at my home, curiosity got the best of me, and ...

Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Founder of the Special Olympics

By Christopher C. Wuensch On August - 13 - 2009ADD COMMENTS
Playing backyard sports is about as American as red, white, and blue polo shirts, Barack Obama Chia Pets, and Sacagawea coins. It’s there behind the house, between the shrubs and birdbath, around the tool shed, and dangerously close to mom’s flower garden where dreams are sculpted, mostly from creative imaginations. When Eunice Kennedy Shriver peered out of the curtains to the backyard of her Maryland home, she was also overcome with visages of grandeur.Granted, her backyard was probably a lot bigger than yours or mine. Her vision certainly was.   It was in that plot where the older sister of John F. Kennedy created ...
With the advent of a new sports talk radio station in Boston, 98.5 The Sports Hub, long time WEEI listeners including Bleacher Report writer BHL will finally have another listening option for the afternoon commute. Long tired of Glen Ordway's The Big Show, a yahoo and fat slob-centric shouting fest, Bleacher Report writer BHL is highly excited that 98.5 will feature Comcast SportsNet's Michael Felger in the weekday 2—6 p.m. time slot. Felger, a favorite of some for his objective view of the Boston sports scene, and his lack of fear when making assertive and unique viewpoints, will be a refreshing treat ...
"I don’t feel like I’m a hypocrite. I feel like I’m human." Those are Josh Hamilton's words on Saturday, Aug. 8, following the publication on Deadspin of pictures proving MLB's "Superman" had in fact relapsed. The public acknowledgment of his relapse diminishes the shine from a great comeback story.  Unfortunately, "tainting" of baseball and baseball-related stories is becoming all too common. While there are some that are outraged at Hamilton, the reaction does not seem to be as severe as the reaction towards Manny Ramirez or David Ortiz.  Both the relapse and the use of steroids tarnish the image of Major League Baseball.  ...
