But how often do we hear things that make us think how far we would go to help a rival? Every team has a rival no matter how good or bad that rival might be. Alabama's rival is Auburn (or Tennessee or LSU depending on whom you ask), Nebraska's rival is Colorado, and Auburn's rival is Georgia (or Alabama.) Rivalries are said to run deep. They have caused fights. They have caused divorces. They ...
When Bill Walsh passed away at 75 back in 2007 following a prolonged battle with leukemia, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell didn't hesitate to issue a statement in tribute of the legendary architect of the five-time Super Bowl Champion San Francisco 49ers."His coaching accomplishments speak for themselves, but the essence of Bill Walsh was he was an extraordinary teacher," Goodell said. "If you gave him a blackboard and a piece of chalk, he would become a whirlwind of wisdom. He revolutionized the game with his offense and will always be remembered as one of the most influential people in NFL history."For ...

Having grown up in the Bay Area, I have witnessed my fair share of both horrible and spectacular teams throughout my adolescent and adult life.  A few teams that come to mind include the 2002 San Fransisco Giants, 2002 Oakland Raiders, 1994 San Fransisco 49ers, and the 2006 Golden State Warriors.  On the flip side, we have the 2009 San Fransisco Giants, 2008 Oakland Raiders, and... well we all know how our respective teams have been doing as of late.  Even our San Jose Sharks, who were the best team in the NHL this season and won the President's Cup, ...

In perusing the internet, talking to colleagues, and sharing information from within the teaching and coaching profession, I come across interesting bits and pieces of information that force reflection. One such piece was recently emailed to me by a colleague, and it is one I have seen circulate on the Internet from several different sources. It is claimed by some to be a piece from a speech Bill Gates gave to a group of high school students. However, it actually comes from the teachings of Charles J. Sykes, author of “Dumbing Down our Kids” and “50 Rules Kids Won’t Learn in School.” ...

And when problems/issues (In this article I think the two terms are interchangeable) come, "experts" follow. We see talking heads on the television and we see thousands of articles about it on the Internet. It is predominantly the reason why sites like Bleacher Report form. These sites become areas where people ...
