Oct. 18, 2009—From the Bleacher Report: "I will not let Nebraska gravitate into mediocrity," said Steve Pederson, then Athletic Director at the University of Nebraska, after firing head coach Frank Solich in 2003. Steve Pederson had acquiesced to the outcry from the loudest corn-critics; those that impatiently demanded an immediate return to the final days of Tom Osborne's tenure when the Corn Husker Nation was awarded three national championships in four years. Those voices were dismissive of the success Solich had enjoyed—National Runner-up and Fiesta Bowl Champion in his second year, two division, and one conference championship in his first four years, and 58 wins in ...
Oct. 13, 2009 from the Bleacher Report: Rush Limbaugh, the controversial conservative talk-radio host, recently confirmed his bid for partial ownership of the St. Louis Rams' NFL franchise.  This set off a firestorm of opposition from the likes of Rev. Al Sharpton, DeMaurice Smith, head of the NFL Players Association, sports writers, and some active players. Smith urged the Player's union to oppose the bid, writing, "Sport in America is at its best when it unifies, gives all of us reason to cheer, and when it transcends.  Our sport does exactly that when it overcomes division and rejects discrimination and hatred." New York Giant's player ...

By Southern Man On September - 17 - 2009
9/17/2009 From the Bleacher Report: LOUISVILLE, KY—David Jason Stinson, a 37-year-old former high school football coach was found not guilty today by a jury of his peers.  Stinson had been charged with reckless homicide and wanton endangerment in the death of Max Gilpin, a 15-year-old lineman on the Pleasure Ridge Park High School football team. It took the jury less than 90 minutes to decide coach Stinson's innocence.  When asked if he had ever seen a homicide case decided so quickly, Alex Dathorne, Stinson's attorney said, "Yes, when the defendant is innocent and there is absolutely no evidence that he did anything wrong!" Indeed, the ...
The AP is reporting that Boise State will not discipline junior defensive end Byron Hout for his role in the incident following the No. 14 Bronco’s 19–8 win over No. 16 Oregon.   Instead BSU Spokesman Max Corbet said that head coach Chris Petersen will "spend time" with Hout to "help him learn" from what happened.   What?   LeGarrette Blount already helped him learn. When Blount responded to Hout’s taunting by slobber knocking him to his knees, I think Hout learned the lesson—once you’ve won the argument keep your mouth shut and move on.   Don’t get me wrong, I am not condoning Blount’s action in any ...
