Nebraska Allowed To Prosper While A.J. Green Punished

By Danny Flynn On September - 30 - 2010
There are a lot of things I love about college football. I love the pageantry, I love the excitement, and I love the tradition. I love pretty much everything about the sport with very few exceptions. But if there’s one thing that I simply can’t stand, it's the double standards when it comes to shortchanging the players. It seems that in recent years we have seen far too many cases of players being screwed by the system and being hurt by silly technicalities while schools and athletic departments sit back and load their pockets with cash. The most recent case involves ...

For WPS Players, Community Involvement is a Part of the Game

By Jo-Ryan Salazar On September - 29 - 2010
A cacophony of noise and laughter can be seen from the playgrounds amidst the high rises in San Francisco’s rough-and-tumble Tenderloin district.  Kids sprint across the hard asphalt with balls launched at them in a game that could be considered as a hybrid between kickball and dodgeball.“First, it’s about enjoying yourself–having fun–and then it’s about expressing yourself as an individual with the ball on the field, and third it’s about being with your friends and working together as teammates,” 1999 World Cup champion and FC Gold Pride forward Tiffeny Milbrett said when asked about the benefits soccer can give to ...

The 25 Most Talented Athlete Offspring

By Alan Rubenstein On September - 28 - 2010
In the last few years it seems as if the many of the best athletes are offspring of other outstanding athletes.  Bobby and Brett Hull from the unprecedented father-son combination of both being in the Hockey Hall of Fame.  Ken Griffey Sr. and Gordie Howe were both able to play professionally with their sons and Archie, Payton and Eli Manning are all among the best quarterbacks in their franchise’s histories.  Producing an offspring has always been a key in determining who will be a great thoroughbred.  Will this become the future of professional athletics and become how scouts determine which ...
A California jury returned a guilty verdict today on three counts of second-degree murder in the death of Los Angeles Angels rookie pitcher, Nick Adenhart and two others in April, 2009. Gallo was charged and convicted of the more serious second-degree murder charges rather than manslaughter because he has a previous DUI conviction and was known to understand the specific dangers of drinking and driving from his own experience. Prosecutor Susan Price noted to the jurors that Gallo had been repeatedly warned by family, friends and court officials about the dangers of drinking and driving. However, his continued need to party and arrogance ...

Is Jacory Harris Soft?

By Jonathan Hoskins On September - 23 - 2010
Jacory Harris received racially charged tweets this week after Miami's loss to Ohio State—an absolutely horrid and deplorable act by a narrow minded individual calling himself Motown305 on Twitter. What's even more disturbing than the act itself is the way that it seems to be getting to Harris. Even more disturbing than THAT, is that we even know about it at all! What point does it serve the general public to know about this incident? Long-time friend and high school team mate Marcus Forston was quoted as saying that the Hurricanes' starting quarterback was visibly shaken all week. My question is ...
In 1960, Gene Autry, already famous as a singing cowboy, decided to travel to the Major League Baseball expansion meetings to see if he could find a baseball team to broadcast on his radio station. He walked away with an actual team instead.Fifty years later, that same team, the Los Angeles Angels, are planning a year-long bash to commemorate their 50th birthday. The Angels will unveil their plans this Friday, and they are going all out. The year long celebration salutes loyal Halos fans and remembers former Angels players. During the season, 81 former Angels players will throw out the ...
Sitting at the Iron Range Bar and Grill inside the Xcel Energy Center, after a Minnesota Wild press conference, one would think to only see crazy die-hard hockey journalists eating hot dogs and Walleye fingers. Tell that to Larry Fitzgerald Sr. Fitzgerald, a sportswriter for the Minnesota-based Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder, has spent over 30 years covering football, a game he loved, a game in which he too was a gifted athlete. He attended Indiana State University, during the same time Larry Bird was played college ball for the Sycamores. Fitzgerald Sr. had dreams of being a professional athlete, similar to his son, All-Pro Arizona Cardinal ...

2010 Miami Heat: Five Motivational Factors Pat Riley Will Use

By John Anthony Pendas On September - 22 - 2010
The Miami Heat and LeBron James have taken their fair share of criticism ever since "the decision." Okay that's an understatement; it’s been more than a fair share. Everyone has felt the need to voice their own opinion on the matter whether reporters have asked them or not. The list of detractors is seemingly greater than the supporters.  We've heard from current players, former players, coaches, owners and GM's. All the while Pat Riley stood quiet behind the scenes without uttering a word. That changed September 10th when Riley finally ended his silence.  Here are some of the things he had to say ...

Ines Sainz and the 25 Sexiest Sports Controversies of the Decade

By Nathaniel Uy On September - 22 - 2010
According to reports, members of the Jets and coaching staff started acting in an immature manner when they saw Sainz in the locker room by blurting out cat calls and making sexually fueled remarks. What's worse is that some actually defended their actions and even put the blame on Sainz because her choice of dress can be considered too revealing. But the fallout from the Ines Sainz Jets locker room interview is not the biggest sex controversy in sports. There's been plenty more scandals that have gotten just as much attention. Here are some of sports sexiest controversies over the past decade.Begin Slideshow
