We Win! We Lose! Who Cares, Let’s All Get Arrested!

It is one of the biggest problems in sports history: riots. A team may win or lose, but their crazy, and mostly drunken, fans leave the game with less than wholesome intentions.

I have no problem with fans that have a good time after a win, but toppling or burning cars and looting stores are out of line, and more importantly, illegal. When you do it after a loss, you're not only a sore loser, you're a criminal too.

Unruly fans are now beginning to riot when a star player leaves their city. Certainly on a smaller scale, but still, setting fire to jerseys definitely makes you a sore loser.

There are some cities that are more closely associated with riots than others. Montreal immediately comes to mind. Their fans caused a riot when they got past the first round of this years playoffs—and they went crazy, possibly crazier, when they got eliminated.

Hailing from Toronto myself, I may project a bit of a bias towards my hometown, but have you ever heard of Toronto fans causing a riot after a sporting event? No, you haven't. That's because we only riot over important things like politics.
