Sports Journalism in an Age of Transition

By Morgan Wick On August - 31 - 2009
This is my first blog post to be republished on Bleacher Report. Hi! I’m going to bring some quirks to my writing, which I hope to (re-) introduce you to over the next few days and weeks. I just relaunched my Web site, MorganWick.com, where I talk about a wide variety of topics, including some you might never have heard about, and even the topics that are familiar I often talk about from a unique perspective, because I’m constantly thinking about them. On my site, the motto is “Ideas every day”, and to celebrate the launch of the new site, this is ...

Little League World Series 2009: Chula Vista Silences Taiwan

By Jo-Ryan Salazar On August - 30 - 2009
It was bound to happen. It was written. This year would be the year that Taiwan (or Chinese Taipei for all you whippersnappers sympathetic to the mainland) would see its streak against Californian teams in the Little League World Series broken. Park View Little League, flying the flag for the proud San Diego suburb of Chula Vista and the Golden State, broke away in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to defeat Taoyuan City, 6-3, on Sunday at Howard J. Lamade Stadium in Williamsport, Pa. The big bats of Taoyuan caused frustration for starting pitcher Isaiah Armenta, who gave up ...

By Andrea Nay On August - 30 - 2009
With all the examples of reckless and selfish behavior headlining the sports pages, it's often easy to miss the positive notes. Let's take a moment to review some of the more endearing things athletes have said and done of late. From Baghdad to the Bronx, sports stories are giving us something to smile about.Begin Slideshow

Remembering the Past: Why Playing Sports Changed My Life

By Jeff Shull On August - 29 - 2009
Coming from experience, I can tell you one thing: Sports memories are forever. As I move on in life, further and further away from the glorious time that was being a kid, I can reflect on a life well-lived. Fortunately, I had parents whose support had no end. They were there when I decided I wanted to be like my big brother and play soccer. They were there when I wanted to give up baseball to play football. They were there when I wanted to give up football and concentrate on track and field (mainly field). Through all the successes and through all of ...

Some of the Reasons I Write for Bleacher Report

By Damali Binta Yael On August - 29 - 2009
As a young child born near the time of World War II, I was told that "knowledge is power." Years later, I learned that to have a "voice" or a chance to freely express yourself, is also a "power." In a country which was founded on the premises of life, liberty and justice for all, I observed that there were structural barriers in sports, education, religious organizations, politics, and more. During my earlier years, my peers believed that NFL football and NBA basketball careers gave them easier access to fame and fortune. Many of my peers had outstanding professional athletic careers. Life after those careers ...

If Arrogance Were Taught Properly…

By Dann Khan On August - 29 - 2009
Given as the reason for all the problems, Accused of tampering with perfectly good brains, I cry and hide from thou Yes, I am scared of thy fury, I am scared. Not cause I can't faceth thy fiery mouth, But cause I cannot bare lies   Lies. Or rather combination of lies and ignorance Ignorance of my truth   Truth, which is like a ambrosia if taken in right quantity But, ambrosia along with pain if taken out of proportion   If you ask me what I think of arrogance, this is what I will say. You may think I myself must be a very arrogant person to advocate arrogance. But let me tell you, no person ...
