Somehow I am going to try to tie-in Sister Hazel, the World Cup, and a story about a neighbor’s late night leak (and the maintenance man that came to fix it). Let me begin with a band named Sister Hazel. Every time a new Hazel album comes out, I honestly feel like a little kid at Christmas. Seriously—just ask my wife. They recently released a trio of songs on an EP entitled “Threeve” to tide over Hazelnuts until the band’s October 2010 new full length album. Great freaking EP, by the way. Go pick up their last few albums if you haven’t heard them in a ...

With NBA free agency on the horizon, the World Cup in full swing, and baseball nearing the All-Star break, Americans have seemingly forgotten about the most hallowed tradition in all of sports that occurs annually on July 4th: The Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. Each year, sultans of sodium gather in Coney Island and do what Americans do best—eat hot dogs. And my goodness, how they eat. Of the thousands of spectators at the venue and millions of viewers at home, it's likely only a handful could tell you what's actually in a hot dog, and if they try to share ...

NFL Teams In Trouble and Their Possible Futures

By Thomas Galicia On June - 29 - 2010
The economy has hampered the daily lives of many, including professional sports. The NFL, being No. 1 for what feels like forever among the big four sports leagues, is in more trouble than they'd leave you to believe. A new collective bargaining agreement needs to be finished by this March, or else there is the possibility of a lockout in the 2011 NFL Season. The sad thing is that, due to many owners hemorrhaging money like a hemophiliac, those same owners would rather not play a 2011 season because: 1. They'll still get TV money from FOX, CBS, NBC, and ESPN ...

When real fans watch sports, they want to feel like they are part of the crowd, even while relaxing in the La-Z-Boy at home. They want to smell the guy who hasn’t showered next to them, feel the piping hot bleachers, and see the waterfall of sweat during the rookie’s first appearance. But the most underrated sense for a sports fan? Hearing. The athletes need it, the coaches need it, the analysts need it and so do the ravenous followers. Sounds in sports can illuminate so many things, and without it, you can miss half of the game. Except for golf. From the buzzer sounding during ...
