I stumbled across an article written today about the death of Chris Henry that just appalled me! The article is titled "Chris Henry Died as he Lived." The goal of the article was basically to cheapen the life of Henry, by stating that it wasn't a surprise that Henry died a violent death. Henry did make mistakes in life. He was definitely not a saint or that good of a role model, especially during the first few years of his NFL career. Over the past two years though Henry had been trying to change that perception of himself. Other articles about Henry paint a completely ...
Caster Semenya is a 18-year-old woman from South Africa who became headline news after winning the gold medal in the 800m World Championship race. Here's the clip of the 800m race . The reason her story came to the forefront of the sports world was that she had an above average testosterone level after a random drug test after she won the gold medal. It was leaked to the media that Semenya had no ovaries and internal testes. Here's a link to an article from the New York Post "Runner has No Ovaries ." The actual genetic testing will be kept confidential. South Africa has allowed ...
When you're a coach of a team, regardless of what sport, one of the most important things to impart on an athlete is the sense of being disciplined and when you mess up, take accountability for your actions. By Steven Resnick On September - 19 - 2009
If you were to ask a majority of football fans on why they enjoy watching football the majority of the answers would be to see the big hits, regardless if it's at the college level or NFL level. Yet, there's something more troubling as a result of the big hits especially the hits that cause a player to have a concussion and even worse is what happens to players who have had multiple concussions. The NFL has finally stepped in making rules that help out certain players who are in a defenseless position, yet even that has been frowned upon. An even more ...

Athletes Are Not Role Models, But They Can Be Idols

By Steven Resnick On July - 29 - 2009
Unless you personally know a professional athlete the chances are the only time you get to see that athlete is on TV or by going to watch them live. The key point being is that you're more likely not to have a personal relationship with that professional athlete.  Yet, it seems like after every athlete arrest it doesn't matter in what sport, there's an argument that athletes are role models and need to behave better. Fans have grown accustomed to hearing about athletes in the news doing something wrong whether it was illegal or something that wasn't really illegal, but a choice that was made that wasn't the best ...
