Charlie Sheen is a huge sports fan. He is also completely and utterly delusional. We are talking about a man who could be on top of the acting world, if he knew how to act appropriately. I have always said that even celebrities and athletes have the right to do what they want on their own time, but this guy is insane!Sheen is the star of his own sitcom, Two and a Half Men. It is based loosely on his life. Actually, the character he plays, who is a womanizing, gambling alcoholic, is in fact far more tame than the man ...

The Little Things We Treasure: “A Glove of Their Own”

By Devon Teeple On February - 27 - 2011
I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Mr. Bob Salomon co-creator of “A Glove of Their Own”.  Our conversation was one that covered all aspects of the sports world: business, the state of the game, and little things we miss in the hustle and bustle of today's fast- paced, media-driven era that we now live in.  As we get older we tend to lose focus on the pure things that the game of baseball offers.  We forget this was a game we played as kids for the fun of it, before the unions took over, before the strikes occurred and before ...

Ray Lucas: The NFL and the Long-Term Effect of Injuries

By Paul Catalano On February - 26 - 2011
On Feb. 8, ESPN's Rich Cimini reported that former National Football League quarterback Ray Lucas was detailing on Facebook, his withdrawal from painkilling drugs. The pain he earned in the NFL. Lucas hasn't played in the NFL since 2003, but he recently underwent back/neck surgery. He has been in pain every single day since his retirement from the NFL. It got so bad, Lucas told The Star-Ledger's Amy Brittain, “I couldn’t stand up straight, couldn’t walk up the steps. It was that bad.” So Lucas went to a Doctor Colao, who said that Lucas had a severe testosterone deficiency, likely resulting from his long ...

Malik Sealy: Tragic Legacy of the Timberwolves Star

By William Russo On February - 26 - 2011
Malik Sealy has been gone now for over a decade.  Had he survived the car crash that killed him when a drunk driver smashed into his vehicle, he’d probably be doing movie roles and working as a TV analyst after a brilliant career in the NBA. As Shakespeare once said, the good men do is often interred with their bones, but Malik showed the world a few lasting emblems to follow today if we look and remember. Few now recall that Sealy also had a featured role in "Eddie," a movie with Rick Fox and Whoopi Goldberg. Malik played the arrogant young ...
Miguel Cabrera: We don’t know the whole story and we may never know the whole story.  The two parts that trouble me most about this story are, “Do you know who I am?” and, “You don’t know anything about my problems.”  No, Miguel, I don’t know anything about your problems. But I really don’t care any more about your problems than you care about mine.  That may sound cold, but at 54 years of age, I learned long ago that the typical morning query from my colleagues—“How are you today?”—is at best perfunctory. If I thought they really cared I might be more ...

NASCAR Needs to Intercede for Emily Maynard

By Michael Chung On February - 23 - 2011
Spoiler alert, if you are a fan of the Bachelor 15 as well as the Bachelorette, stop reading now! Reality Steve is reporting that the next Bachelorette will definitely not be Emily Maynard.  This is bad news for Emily fans.  As was reported earlier, it appears from Internet rumors that Brad Womack does not pick Maynard but Chantel O’Brien.  Rumors have swirled that Emily could be the next Bachelorette.   Reality Steve writes,  "As I’ve mentioned all season long, the “Bachelorette” would be Emily’s gig as long as she wanted it. She’s beautiful, she’s got the tragic back story, ...
My favorite college hockey team is at Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts. You have to understand my loyalty. I have been on the faculty there for more years than most players have been playing. So it was with a bit of distress that I learned the entire hockey team had been felled by a mysterious illness recently. Theories on what happened went from Legionnaires' disease to SARS. Conspiracy theorists wondered why only the visiting Curry team came down with the sickness after a night game away from home. None of the opposing team members were sick. Maryellen Colliton Kiley, the dean ...
How many Oakland Raiders have the helmet with a computer in it? It just might be a good idea for the Oakland Raiders to make sure each and every player has one. It could provide data on head injuries, no matter how subtle or severe. An NFL player does not have to guess about the number of blows to his head as there is now a helmet to help keep track of that data. This B/R writer became aware of the NFL's "smart" Riddell helmet after listening to the presentation of the Pro Football Hall of Fame's guide, pictured above. The helmet is loaded with ...

Emily Maynard: Could She Be Nascar’s Secret Weapon?

By Michael Chung On February - 19 - 2011
Spoiler alert, if you are a fan of the Bachelor 15 and are unaware of the internet rumors then stop reading now! Bachelor Brad Womack is closer to determining who he will choose.  Emily Maynard appears to be the favorite.  She has swept the hearts of America with her touching story of losing the love of her life, NASCAR’s Ricky Hendrick, in a tragic plane accident.   The story has another enduring quality, almost a week after Ricky’s death, Emily found out she was pregnant with their child, a girl. Emily has captured the hearts of both men and women.  Her outer beauty ...
The NFL is the most popular sport in America which is why football fans are on pins and needles during labor negotiations. For the average person, it seems like the owners and the players are purely greedy.  Both sides already make a lot of money and seem to want more at the others’ expense.  But is it pure greed that is motivating the players?  Are there deeper aims to the negotiations? George Cohen of the U.S. government and the director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service has been brought in to help both sides.  Hopefully, there will be an agreement ...
